Prepping for Lockdown

Hi all,

Hope we are all doing ok. So how are everyone's plans for lock down as the season comes to an end. Any new tips and tricks?

Have a couple of winter jobs. New set of nets and also going to put my new found sewings skills back to the test and line the bedroom curtains with blackout material, it can be a bit of a task to get the kids to sleep in the summer when the sun is shining brightly.

Was wondering what everyone is using for dehumidification over the winter months. I have used cat litter in trays but I would say that when I got back it didn't seems to have clumped up at all so not sure if it has worked or not. Anyone use any different methods? Something with not too much waste and not expensive as loads of the purpose made dehumidifiers you can get on Amazon.

Hello sparks , we did same as you first couple of years putting the cat litter down but it didn’t soak anything up . I think that’s more for single glazed vans that get condensation on the windows . We don’t bother with anything like that now , we haven’t for about 5 years . We move everything away from the walls , remove anything that might freeze and bag up duvet covers ….and the drain down of course

That is very interesting to know. When we throw the cat litter out ready for the new season it looks unchanged. Ours is double glazed with all the vents etc.

I actually have some dehumidifiers I bought for my classic car kicking around, I may this year put one of those out with the cat litter. If they catch nothing I think I will be following your lead Slats. When we get back in March it never feels humid or damp either.

I don't even think, if you pay the site to do it, they even put salt out any more.

We also found that the morning sunshine was getting through the curtains, so fitted blackout roller blinds (from Argos) behind the curtains and that was very effective and quite cheap.  We use dehumidifier bags (quite cheap from stores such as "The Range"), which hang on a wardrobe rail and collect excess moisture, they are always full of water when we open up again.  As caravans have considerable ventilation, there will always be a degree of moisture in the air during winter, but keeping all vents clear and moving furnishings away from the walls, there should not be a problem.

So we have some spare black out material from a set of curtains that we have in storage. Seems a shame to let it just stay in hibernation in our loft. So pretty cheap for me to sew into the existing curtains. Also means less chance the kids can break it 

Thinking about the dehumidification, for a couple of years, we accidently left cartons of salt on the shelves or under the seats. These were dripping and solid by the time we returned in March, so therefore I presume that the cat litter just wasn't doing anything and there must be a need for dehumidifying. I'll try a different cat litter I think this year. Give that a go
