Hi to all members .We purchased our first static in early November last year ,not very good timing must admit ,have only managed one visit to move things away from walls and put in dehumidifiers etc, have used the sites drain down service to comply with insurance. We had owned a touring caravan for many years but decided to give it up and put down some roots.
Looking forward to reading the many topics ,as it doesn't matter how many years you have owned caravans we can all do with a helping hand at times.

    Hi Ivors,

Welcome to the forum. Great to have you here.

Which 'van did you go for? New or used?

We only got our 'van in November the year before. So have had one good summer out of it and the occasional visit. I am desperately keeping my fingers crossed we'll be allowed down there for the Easter holidays.

Thanks for the welcome, we bought a 2014 Delta Bromley, only 26x12 but a good lay out, with two good sized bedrooms and looks well cared for but only time will tell.

Nice, you'll love it. A great little bolt away for rest and relaxation.

How far is the commute? Ours is around 5-6 hours (London to Cornwall) which is a push but we love Cornwall so much that we couldn't buy anywhere else and we did look. I can't wait to get on the road again. I always thought the 3 month winter break wouldn't be a problem but even without lockdown it's feeling like a proper stretch without a visit...

    Welcome to the forum Ivor’s.
Like you I went for a caravan within a shorter travelling distance, in our case about 60-70 miles from home. It’s near enough to be able to decide to go and be there within a couple of hours (which works for us).

    Hi DaveE
Yes two hours for us depending on the traffic on the M5,but at least we can set off any time and no caravan on the back, just hope we can get down soon.

Switching from a tourer to a static myself I appreciate the difference in travelling as well. No Hitching & Pitching. No gas guzzler required. I enjoyed it while I did it but it did start to get to be hard work so it was time to stop.
Having a static is different but just as enjoyable and it works far better for me nowadays.
Fingers crossed we’ll be back there soon.

Welcome IvorS to the forum I too am reasonably new to a static I bought ours in June 2019 after 15 years motorhoming.
My mother in law was taken ill just as we bought it and hardly used the van for the rest of the year and then COVID struck.
Ours is just 75 miles from home and when we can use it again just 1-1/2 hours on a good run.

    John.

Hello Ivors and welcome to the site from me.

I did touring caravan many years ago when the children were young.  Enjoyed it then but now in retirement i could not cope with the constant hitching. Putting up and down the awning. Especially in wet weather, fetching the water, emptying the chemical toilet. The list goes on. I know you can visit different areas of the country with a tourer  but having a static is like a home from home. You will not regret your decision and i hope you have many years of happy static caravan ownership.  ;D

    Hi Ian,
    Thanks for the welcome.
Yes I agree with all your comments and could add many more for giving up touring but having reached seventy It seemed the right time to take things a bit easier. Just keeping everything crossed that we get to use it this year

I have everything crossed. I have 3 months off of work coming up for shared parental leave and we were hoping at spending large chunks of it down in Newquay. Especially as part of it is straight through the kids school summer holidays.
Saying that, with no one really travelling abroad (it seems) Devon and Cornwall is going to be heaving...

That's great news. It will be nice for you to spend time with your family at your home from home over the summer period ;D
Lets all hope the sites are open soon. Seems a bit uncertain at the moment as to when they will reopen.  Hopefully in the spring but who knows.   ???

Having contracted Covid last month and still recovering i cannot wait to get back to our Static. I need a change of scenery and sea air.  :P

As you say i think all areas in UK will be very busy this year with people staying at home. Also seems many are buying Holiday homes too. Our site had a few for sale after Christmas but they are all sold now.
