Hello! Advice re first time purchase
    « on: March 23, 2021, 08:00:08 pm »
    Hello everyone,

We currently have a large touring caravan and looking to purchase our first static van.

Could you please advise - would it make more financial sense to purchase a static directly from the manufacturer then purchase a pitch space at a park of choice, or would it work out better to purchase the static from the park itself from one that’s already there? How have you all done it?

    Thank you in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
You will probably find that most Sites will only let you have a caravan on their property if you buy it from them.
It is usually best to find a nice Site, see what pitches are available and order a caravan from their sales department.  Many Sites will order various makes as required.  You could also purchase a used van already on the Site.
    Good luck

Hi MRSC, going through similar process to yourself, moving from a tourer to a static van. We found the site we liked and have had virtual tours of the various vans and pitches. We’ve put down a fully refundable holding deposit and are off to view on the 12th Apr. All very exciting

Hi MrsC and welcome to the forum.

One thing that I have heard on the grapevine from our site guys, the lead times on ordering a caravan, or any parts for that matter, are very long right now.

Not sure if that's to do with Covid or increased demand due the boom in UK holidays that is about to happen. So as Scorpio says, find a site you like and see what they have on offer. They'll have a combination of old and new, our site does but they are selling quick. Then as Tonks says, try and get a virtual tour of the pitch and van.

Which part of the country are you looking at if you don't mind me asking?

Do not buy direct from the manufacturer unless you have previously agreed with a park that you can bring it on . They will charge you for the privilege probably something around a years pitch fee for allowing it . Most will not allow it and you will struggle to find someone to take it.
You can purchase one on site , or if it’s a vacant pitch the site will tell you who their preferred supplier is and then you can see what they have in stock or order one from there.
Find your perfect site first , then the pitch then the caravan , certain caravans are better suited to certain pitches , for instance on our pitch the seating is best on the rhs due to the view. Other pitches may not suit outlook doors etc.
