    Awning for a static caravan?
    « on: January 03, 2021, 04:09:41 pm »
Hi, can anyone advise me if its possible to fit some kind of awning to the front of my static caravan 12ft wide, to cover an area when my french doors are open. I would like to sit on my front decking but it gets too much sun all day. I would like an awning 2.5-3m wide and 2m out if its possible. I look forward to yourcomments

    Hi MANSHEZ269,

So in the near recent past I did have a look into something like this but did not come up with anything worthwhile. The front of the caravan didn't seem to have any structural fixing points that I would feel safe in using. Any high wind would most likely catch the awning (if it hadn't been packed away properly) and tear a large chunk of the façade.

I then looked at a way of using my decking to take the main brunt of the structural work but it was too much effort and cost of not a lot of reward.

In the end I went for a banana umbrella like this

I only paid £55 for it though. I also had to buy the base weights which you fill with water.

It is perfect. Has really good coverage and as it's counterweighted can be put to one side so people don't trip over it etc. Folds down pretty compact as well.

Let us know how you get on.

Like Sparkalicious I don’t think retractable awnings go with static caravans. Statics, by their nature, are not built with quite the same structural strengthening as touring caravans, motorhome etc.Whereas the other alternative re built to cope with being moved about here, there, & wherever on a regular basis, statics are expected to be transported on a low loader a limited number of times in their lifetime and having been sited the once to stay there.

With the size of deck space you mention I would be tempted to look a couple of 6foot square gazebos to provide cover when needed as a possible solution.
