    Hello
    « on: August 27, 2020, 08:23:08 pm »
Hello everyone, I'm Mel and my husband  and I are thinking about buying our first static caravan. We have a couple of appointments booked to view sites and caravans in Skipton this weekend.  We live in Northamptonshire but think Skipton will be a great place to have a static. My husband is a Yorkshire man and our long term goal is to more to Yorkshire however this will not be for a few years.  My husband has a just over 5 years before he retires and I hope that I will also be in a position to retire early.  We have family in Northallerton and our daughter is currently living in Ossett but will be moving to Warrington with her job. This why we think Skipton would be a great location for us.

I am very excited about the idea but my Mum has put some doubts into my head. She thinks we won't want to travel 3 hours each way every few weeks. If we didn't have family in the area I'm sure we would be looking at sites closer to home.  Did anyone else have doubts about the amount of time they would spend at their caravan? We usually have 2 to 3 holidays a year so plan to spend our holidays in the caravan. Do you spend more or less time at your caravan?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hello Mel, and welcome to the forum... As another Yorkshireman I can understand the logic of what your thinking but I’m not that sure if it would work for me. Whilst mid way between the places you are wanting to visit it may not be near enough to any of them for regular trips. It might be worth exploring other options that might work better. Say looking nearer to Northallerton I.e. nearer the A1 for travelling from home & perhaps the A66 for east to west trips to Lancs.  It would be worth have a weeks holiday exploring the area your thinking of looking at potential sites and trying out the travel options available to places.
Better to make sure your happy before you commit rather than finding out you’ve made an expensive mistake.

Hi Mel make sure the caravans that you view are centrally heated and double glazed, as my cousin bought a caravan last year and he just assumed that the one he bought had.
Anyway he was not happy as autumn drew in and he had to have central heating installed.

    John.
