As I'm now through the door after transferring from GoStatic I thought I'd take the time to do a bit of a hello introduction
I live in Greater London in the Bromley area. I play for a rugby club, the reason I moved to the area, that has toured over Easter to Cornwall for 87 years (yes 87). I have been on the last 21 of those tours and due to this myself and the Club have a massive affinity with The Duchy with many friends made in the area
That leads me on to how we got our static. On a cheeky weekend for a quick break with the OH and our little one the thought of buying a place in Cornwall came up. We had just completed on one of our investments so had some money to hand that we didn't want to witter away. We started looking at flats and apartments but they were very much out of our budget. While looking through Right Move I came across what I thought was a small lodge type property on a holiday park bang in our budget. After having a chat we decided to go down and have a look around as it's a long way to come back to have a butchers.
Well the last time I was in a static was about 25 years ago, so when the site agent told me what I had seen was a caravan (or holiday home how they've tried to re-brand them) I didn't believe him. He then showed us around a couple of his new for sale caravans he had on site. Our socks were blown off. Gone were the days of single pane glass, a carbon monoxide killer in the lounge and a toilet block across the way on the site. This had double glazing, central heating and even an en-suite loo in the main bedroom. We both knew at that point we wanted to do this so we paid a deposit for a Willerby Linwood and a pitch where we wanted to be on the site and went away to do more research on other sites.
A month later we completed the deal and couldn't be more happier. The 5 hour drive isn't even a chore. It suits much better than a flat with no real monthly upkeep. The site take care of most of that after we paid the site fees etc and then there is the opportunity to earn some money via letting if we wish.
We own 2 electric cars so where, in our old PHEV, the journey would cost £120 before you have done anything else, now it costs £20. That means there is no hesitation when it comes to the last minute trip.
As a job, I'm a building services engineer so I put that to good use where I can with my own house making it as green as possible. Always happy to chat electric cars and how anyone can do their bit to be more sustainable. You don't have to wear hemp and be a vegan (I am definitely not) but every little help and it saves the cash in your pocket
Ha ha, sorry for the long post but that's my story and how I got to own a static and we are over the moon

. Hoping, if the site re-opens on the 15th May, we'll be straight back down there. I have a lot of holiday to burn
