Rust inside the caravan on appliances
    « on: August 06, 2021, 11:55:46 am »
We bought an ABI Windermere 2020 and have just had it 11 months. Throughout those 11 months, we have had issues with rust appearing on the door handles, fireplace, kitchen tap and hob. We keep the place well ventilated and heated when it's cold and don't use any products which may cause this (we use CIF Stainless Steel cleaner on cooker and only dry cloths on fireplace and this is the same product we use home with no issues). As for the kitchen tap rusting, water obviously gets on it. Has anyone got the same issue? I am starting to wonder if there is another less obvious issue with the caravan or if it is just poor quality fittings. We have contacted ABI but they are being less than helpful with this. Thanks in advance for any help or feedback on similar issues.

We have also experienced this with our 2014 Victory caravan.
To date we have changed some satin chrome cupboard handles that have shown early signs of rust, both taps and have touched up painted cooker side strips.
We also have signs of rust on radiators in the shower room.
Caravans are prone to condensation whatever you do, they heat up during the day and cool down at night.
Ours is by the sea so the salt air doesn't help.
Our external tv aerial is changed every 3 years as the salt air corrodes the fittings inside the box.
I fear it is just one of those things owning a static caravan.
They will be made to a budget so I am not particularly surprised.

As far as the taps go, they are probably not stainless steel but chrome plated.
Our kitchen taps started showing signs of rust spots within 2 years, although in fairness it has not progressed much in the following 5 years,
Apparently they should be diligently dried off every time they get wet.
Most manufacturers use the same suppliers, so we probably all have the same taps - just one of those things, unfortunately.

One thing that could help, during close down, try not to use bowls of salt as a dehumidifier. Try something like cat litter or purpose dehumidifiers. This way there won't be salt vapour in the air that will add to the situation.
