Hello PKW , there’s a section further down the page about buying a van, have a read  , hopefully a mod will move this Post for you. Both sell lots of caravans so lots will have good experience you may only hear about the ones that go wrong though. When looking for a static , it’s best to decide on which area you want first , then visit lots of sites in the area until you find the site you like , this can take time , took us a couple of years till we found what we were looking for ....but we had some good weekends out looking for it. Are you looking for a site by the coast or inland , big site with loads of activities or a quiet site etc. Use google earth to explore the area your looking at , look for caravan roofs to find unknown sites.

    Hi PKW25,

I have just recently bought a static from Park Dean in Newquay.

They guys on site were really nice. Don't get me wrong, they'll snake oil you to try and get the sale but overall a good experience.

So we rocked up without an appointment. Had a look at a couple of new caravans and decided on one. They gave me the option of 3 locations, apparently the "only" 3 left on the site. They sweetened the deal with "free" wrap around decking and an outside metal shed, oh and waived the site fees for what was left of the year. Not a lot but something.

We then put a £2k refundable deposit to secure the van and pitch. They did chase me a couple of times but nothing too hard. I wanted to do a cold run and stay on the site to make sure it suited us (it did).

We then signed on the dotted line at the end of that trip. Overall pretty seamless. Have to say the sales manager was great, even though you have to take everything he says with a pinch of salt, and the owner liaison is superb.

Van was on pitch in a couple of weeks and we did the key hand over, they stayed late for us as we were travelling down from London.

We also signed up for their letting scheme and used their insurance. Everything under one roof, great for us as all takes care of itself.

Hope that helps. Any more questions, just ask

Wait til you try to sell it ,as they will rip you off to the tune of thousands of pounds!Common trick by majority of sites. Also, if you sell privately you can be liable for upwards of 15% plus VAT commission to the site.Rip Off Britain comes to mind!!

Father Joe. Welcome to the forum.

I think most people on this site are fully aware that owning a static is not an investment its a lifestyle and enjoy using their vans for their and their families enjoyment.

I certainly would not consider selling as i enjoy the lifestyle and the van and i am prepared to pay for that. If i did ever decide to sell then i am ready for any losses incurred.

    Ian

Admittedly I am only going to sell after at least 10 years. I'm fully aware that the van by that point will be worth tuppence apeny. Happy with that as I'll get my moneys worth through the savings on holidays etc and if I want at any point I can rent it. Hopefully not for a good few years.

    Hi PKW95

Both JFH & PDR are good companies.. John Fowler being based in the west country have a good name for providing good value fun holidays and have a growing holiday home owner base. They have static caravans for sale on most of their parks.

PDR are possibly the largest operator in the UK with a whole range of parks - There is good and bad in most companies so really comes down to where feels best for you. In terms of price you may get a better deal on site fees and purchase price with John Fowler holidays.

Click here to visit Parklink where you can read all about buying and selling static caravans in the UK: https://www.parklink.uk/

Where you thinking of going?  :)
