We leave ours on all of the open season, no significant power cuts, so everything has been ok.  Handy to have some frozen food available when we get to the van.

We leave ours on during the season when we are not there. We tend to cook meals at home and freeze them. We then put them in the front boot of the car (basically under the bonnet but is electric so no engine) which stays very cool for journey down there. Then straight in the freezer when we arrive.

If we turned it off we'd have to wait for the freezer to get down to temperature which would be annoying.

When we turn down the van for winter it get's turned off, cleaned and dried and doors left ajar so it has air circulation.

Ours is on for the season , we put a couple of ice cubes in a bag in the freezer , that way if there’s a frozen blob in the bag next time we go we know the freezers been off because of a power cut for too long

We’re off for our first week in our new van on Saturday (handover at 10) and was discussing the same just the other night. Decided to also leave the fridge freezer on during the season, but I read a great tip  (similar to Slattster) in which you place a penny on the top of an already frozen ice cube. If when you next arrive at the van, the penny has now sunk to the bottom of the ice cube tray and refrozen, then you know you have an outage. Thought that was rather clever.

I really like that idea. I'm down this weekend and if I have a spare penny and a egg cup I think I will give that a go.

I currently use the microwave clock as an indicator that the power hasn't gone out. If it reads 00:00 then there has been a problem. I like the penny/ice idea as we have had issues with our fridge freezer and needed it replacing as I think the diverter valve was faulty and it would be intermittent when it chills. This was for both the freezer and the fridge.

Now to go and hunt down the back of the sofa for some change  :P
