    Caravan Essentials
    « on: March 23, 2021, 02:29:59 pm »
So now we are getting close to being allowed back in our 'vans I started thinking  :)

As some will be aware we are now not renting to the general public, only to friends and family.

So I want to start to list a set of essentials that I'll leave down in Cornwall, rather than trek back with them every time we visit. Basically lightening up the load in the car every time we travel. We now travel with 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog. Rather not have to take the roof box each time so space is at a premium.

    So far I have:

    • Phone chargers (an absolute must obviously)
    • Bathroom towels
    • Tea towels
    • Toothbrush
    • Dog bowls

What else can you folks think of or have already got as essentials for your home away from home? I'm planning on taking a day trip down there on my own on the 6th April to dress up the 'van so anything I can take with me would be great as the car will be empty.

    P.S.
The latest member of our family

We have two sets of clothes one for the van and one for home.

We leave one set at the caravan in the wardrobe. Have not had any issues with dampness as we leave a dehumidifier in the wardrobe to stop it.  Its saves taking a suitcase everytime on visiting. We have a portable washing machine at the caravan to clean them rather than use the onsite launderette.

    All toiletries
    Bedding

The rest is just tinned food, TV etc which are all left onsite.

    Hope that helps.

Oh the dogs lovely. What's his name or is it a she?

    Ian

Nice, I like the idea of a portable washing machine. Not sure the misses would go for it and I think she likes a visit to the laundrette as some time away from us lot.

We thought about 2 sets of clothes, maybe for things like PJs and trunks but the kids are like weeds and if you leave anything down there for more than 2 weeks they won't fit in it by the time we head back down there.

Food we leave dry and tinned etc. We tend to do a cook here in London, freeze and bung in the freezer when we get there. We also do a Morrisons click and collect for when we arrive.

Oh yes that's true they do grow quickly
You could then just have two sets of adult clothes and just take the children's ones. Yes pj's we leave there too.

She prob goes for the peace and quite  ;D

Similar it only has one drum though. Think there was a picture of it on one of the threads.
Trouble with the twin tub one is storage. The one we have fits nicely in the spare bedroom wardrobe.

The only thing is when using it on  spin.  I have to hold onto the machine as it jumps about a bit  ;D We use it in the bathroom on a pedestal with the overflow tube going into the shower tray. Also its easier to fill from the shower head as you can control the temp of the water going in.

We always leave raincoats and umbrella at the van (our Site is in Yorkshire) !
Other than that, we keep spares of everything (towels, bedding, clothes etc) Spare batteries, torch, DVD's, books and some gardening tools.

Umbrellas! Yes that is a good one. I'll put that on my list.

Even though we are in Cornwall we visit at all times of the year and I'll need something for the dog walking so I don't get soaked.
