    Caravan Update
    « on: September 15, 2020, 11:24:11 am »
    Hi all  ;D

Sorry I've been absent for so long. We went our 2 week break and then as we got back our second child arrived so had my hands full.

Well the 2 week break was brilliant. We got everything we wanted out of our 'van. Lots of water sports etc and then chilling out on site. Pool was open and the owners session is great as it doesn't get too busy. Very early though and meant the 3 y/o was pooped for any activities for the rest of the day.

So as we were packing up we noticed the fridge not working. Sorted that out on warranty but as I mentioned before the site guys put a hole in the kitchen lino with the temp fridge. They are getting Willerby to replace but I'm still not happy about it.

So then on to the next saga. As we left we had renters for the next couple of weeks before my in-laws went down to use it. When they arrived they discovered that the alarm motion sensor had been taped over.

Great, so now not insured while that is like that. The site explained they had done it due to a lack of key fobs. Again not my problem they should of been more pro-active. And also, why go to all that hassle, just turn the alarm off. Simple as that.

But worst of all, at some point someone had ripped the back off of the dining room bench. This wasn't picked up by the rental team when cleaning the van after the letting, and as you can see it was done with some force.

So we have been burnt now. We are now arguing about who is going to pay for that repair. It should come out of someone's deposit but as they have long gone that isn't going to happen now.

We love the site but have decided not to rent any more. You just can't trust some people and Park Dean are not enforcing and rules or standards on their customers. There is no point having a lovely caravan that will be a tat fest due to peoples' disrespect. Also, with the 3 y/o now starting Nursery/School, we will need it mostly at the school breaks so we wouldn't fit in PD's letting scheme anyway. There is the added bonus that we won't have to pack anything away either at the end of every stay and we can make it even more homely.

A real shame and PD have now lost out on rental income for the next 10 years all because they don't hold up to their side of the bargain.

That's terrible to see what damage was done.

The trouble with renting is that some people have no respect for other peoples property. They don't care as its not their van. They haven't invested a lot of money into it.
I must admit i have never rented and the site does not allow it anyway. Only family and close friends.

As you say now you can leave all your personal belongings in the van without having to take them home whenever you rent and visit whenever you like.  It really does then feel like a home from home.
Plus not having to worry about what damage might be done.

I hope everything is repaired ok.

    Ian

    Cheers Ian.

It's currently fully booked till the end of the season. The money from that will cover the repairs and then also the site fees for next year.

Not renting it is also a weight off of my mind as I hate not knowing what is going on while I'm not there.

Nice one, thanks. We are all happy out on that front.

    As for damage, fingers crossed.

Glad you had a good time at your ‘van apart from having to deal with the damage issues.
We’ve gone a different way with our ‘van by having it on an owners(& family) only site that’s near the Yorks resorts of Scarborough, Filey & Bridlington with all the entertainment they have to offer available to us when we want it. As grandparents, rather than parents of youngsters, we use the ‘van a lot of the time by ourselves. The  occasional visits by the grandchildren usually entail plenty of time at the seaside ( beach ) etc.
Many congratulations on your latest arrival. Hope everybody is coping well with the changes.

Cheers Dave, it's all a juggling act at the moment but hopefully will settle down soon.

Our site is perfect for us in terms of facilities and location. We just need to stop renting and then we'll be happy out. I never really wanted to rent it but saw it as a missed opportunity if I didn't. Turns out I was right in the first place. Saying that, it will bring a fair bit of wedge when the season ends, but happiness isn't all about money.

I don’t think you ever get to stop juggling, but you learn to do it better with the practice. Even now with a grown up family It’s still a case of having to juggle about to make things work at times, and especially with our grandchildren ( who are about the same ages as your youngsters). For us it’s not just what do we want to do but how do we do that while being the helpful and supportive grandparents all in one.   So I’m still learn new juggling tricks even in my 70’s.  But it’s all worth it, every minute
